Life History:  Perennial

Growth Form:  forb

Presumed native to tropical regions worldwide as well as the southern portion of the United States (excluding California), Central and most of South America, and Central and East Asia, and some coastal countries in Africa.  

Low-growing, mat-forming perennial in the Plantaginaceae. Leaves are oppositely arranged, sessile, succulent, and small, growing only up to 2 cm. Stems are also succulent and root at nodes. Flowers are white to light purple and formed singly in leaf axils on long pedicels. Stamens are in two pairs of different lengths. Plants are generally hairless.  

Bacopa monnieri is grown and sold as an ornamental due to its utility as a ground cover and its attractive flowers (see https://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/54626) .
