Life History:  Perennial

Growth Form:  grass

Temperate Eurasia

Perennial, helophytic, rhizomatous grass. Stems unbranched. Leaf sheaths with prominent midribs, and closed up to near the top. Ligules are 1.2-6 mm long, smooth, and obtuse in shape. Leaf blades are flat, 30-60 cm long and relatively wide. Leaf blades shallowly grooved with prominent midribs. Leaf margins with short, stiff hairs. 

Although this species is not an ornamental, it was likely introduced intentionally for forage.
